3 of the Best Dog Food Brands Money Can Buy

Is Your Dog Getting The Best Dog Food?

In the past I’ve discussed the fact that all dog foods definitely aren’t created equal. What I haven’t told you, however, is which brands I consider to be the best dog food brands on the market. I can tell you till I’m blue in the face that “premium” dog foods are the only way to go, but what brands are actually premium? The answer can be hard to determine in today’s day and age when every brand on the market is claiming to be a premium brand. Here are three brands I’d feed my own dogs (and that’s saying a lot).

Canidae

Canidae, like many of the other best dog food brands on the market, probably isn’t a brand you’ve heard of. In fact, the best dog food brands don’t really seem to advertise much, but tend to grow via word-of-mouth advertising instead. Their money goes into quality ingredients, not quality commercials.

Canidae is an all-natural dog food that contains more than 50-percent high-quality meat proteins. The food also contains digestive enzymes that are similar to those found in nature. Another great thing about Canidae is that the meat they use is hormone-free, which means your dog isn’t getting nasty additives that could do more harm than good in the long run.

AvoDerm

AvoDerm is the food I’m feeding my dogs right now. My older dog (a 12-year-old retriever mix) has a sensitive stomach and he can clear a room if he’s fed the wrong food. AvoDerm has a baked variety that is very gentle on his stomach and gives him energy, health and a nice and shiny coat.

I was hesitant to feed AvoDerm at first. It does contain avocados and we are all told that avocados are toxic to dogs. This is true, to a point. The skin of the avocado is what’s toxic, and AvoDerm does not contain the skin so there is nothing in the food that can hurt the dog.

If you have a dog who has frequent skin infections, dandruff or a sub-par coat, AvoDerm is probably the brand for you. And as I said before, it’s great for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

Solid Gold

Like Canidae and AvoDerm, I have also fed my own dogs Solid Gold. It’s another great dog food that uses all-natural ingredients and no artificial preservatives. I personally recommend the Hund-n-Flocken (for adults) or Hundchen Flocken (for puppies) if you go with this line. My dogs have done amazingly well on it in the past.

When it comes to dog food, it is definitely important to remember that the best dog food brands don’t come cheap. You can get a 20-pound bag of cheap dog kibble for less than $10. A 15-pound bag of these premium brands will run you $20 to $30. However, you’ll be able to feed less of it and in the long run, it will save you money because your dog won’t be visiting the vet as much as it would if you feed it a sub-standard diet.

I recommend that even though it costs more upfront, you should make sure you feed your dog only the best dog food and not a cheap store brand. The ingredients really do make a huge difference in the health of your dog.
