Auto Repair or New Car Purchase?

What to Do When Auto Repair Costs Hit Hard

You’re driving along in your faithful automobile and suddenly something goes wrong. Your car breaks down on you and you find yourself in need of serious auto repair. The question is, if your car is more than a few years old, do you pay for the extensive auto repair or do you just shell out money for a new car altogether. Believe it or not, the answer may not be what you think.

A New Car Isn’t Always the Answer

If you have a car that needs extensive auto repair, such as a transmission or engine replacement, even if that car is a few years old, you might want to consider making those repairs rather than buying a new car altogether. The cost of auto repair is almost always less than the cost of buying a new car.

There is an exception to this rule however. If, even after auto repair, your car isn’t going to run the way it’s supposed to, you should forego the auto repair and opt for a new car purchase. Another scenario, of course, would be if the repairs to your auto would cost more than the purchase of a new or quality used car. In that scenario, auto repair should be avoided as well.

Good beginning to a fairly deep subject. What if the vehicle is a disel or serves some special purpose. further information and investigation is definately required. I would recommend getting the opinion of a trusted mechanic for your specific situation.
