Beware of Phishing Scams

Phishing Scams May Just Cost You Your Identity

If you’re not familiar with the term fishing, you may want to familiarize yourself with what it means and how it can affect you. After all, phishing may just cost you your identity if you don’t know how to protect yourself.

Loss of Identity

Think that you can’t lose your identity? Well, technically you can. It can be stolen from you in a number of ways, and one of the most common ways thieves try to steal your identity is through phishing (as in fishing for information). So how do you protect yourself?

Be Safe

Be very careful how you handle emails that request your personal information. Don’t ever reply to an email with your personal information such as social security numbers, bank account numbers or credit card numbers, even if those emails seem to come from reputable establishments.

Also make sure that you don’t use links in any emails to get to a webpage that asks for your personal information. If you need to go to a website that you know to update it with your personal information, type the website URL directly into your web browser. Using email links may take you to phony websites that want to steal your personal information.
