With today’s increasing energy costs, it’s no wonder that people are looking to save money wherever they can. One great way to keep your expenses low is to save money on your grocery bills. But how exactly do you go about doing that?

Don’t Skimp

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you should buy fewer groceries. I’m saying that you should shop smart when it comes to grocery shopping. Believe it or not, that doesn’t mean always buying generic and it doesn’t mean going to your local warehouse club and buying in bulk. Follow these simple steps and you’ll be surprised on how much you can save on your grocery bills.

Buy on Sale

Sometimes the brand name price is cheaper than the generic price if you catch a great sale. When you find a sale like this, buy as much as you think is reasonable and store the excess in a pantry. This will save you a ton of money on grocery bills.

Buy Generic

With some things, like canned fruits and vegetables and ketchup, the difference between the generic brand and the name brand can be nonexistent. The difference you see in your grocery bills, on the other hand, may be quite substantial.

Use Coupons

Another way to save money on your grocery bills is to use coupons. The Sunday paper usually has a bunch of coupons in it. In fact, I know of a person who buys only the Sunday paper just for the coupons in it. The savings really add up.
