Home Surveillance Isn't Just for the Rich and Famous

Home Surveillance Made Affordable for Everyone

Someone smashes your pumpkin, steals spare change out of your car, trespasses on your property -- wouldn't a home surveillance system be nice? But your not rich and famous so there's no way you can afford one. Or maybe you live in a nice neighborhood and you don't need one. If that's your line of thinking, you need to rethink that logic.

We Could All Use It

First of all, no matter how good or "safe" you think your neighborhood is, that doesn't mean people from the "wrong side" of town don't find their way there in the wee hours of the night. I live in a pretty nice subdivision, but almost every car on the block was broken into when two teenagers from the wrong side of town decided me and my neighbors were "easy pickings".

No matter where you live, you should consider home surveillance. If someone does happen to violate your property, no matter who insignificant that violation is, recorded evidence can make sure the person accountable pays for that crime.

The Affordablility Factor

If you think you would like home surveillance equipment but think you can't afford it, I have some good news. Some products, like SmartGuard's motion light security camera cost about $100 and they are a combination motion flood light/security camera built into one. Every time the sensor goes off, the light shines on and a 20-second video clip is recorded.

There are also wireless camera systems available through companies like X10.com that allow you to monitor and record from multiple cameras at once. They can run a few hundred dollars for an entire setup, but it's a great way to get complete home surveillance security for a fraction of what a professional would charge to install it.

It may seem like overkill, but some neighborhood watches actually recommend people install these cameras to keep neighborhoods safer, and to help prosecute any troublemakers who do violate neighborhood homes.
