Home Cookin' for Fido -- Follow This Homemade Dog Food Recipe

Your dog is a treasured member of your family, so treat him like one and feed him homemade dog food

Homemade dog food is a great choice for your pet. After all, your dog is like a member of your family and you wouldn't feed a member of your family...dog food...would you? Of course not! So why would you feed your furry best friend food that's questionable?

With recent news regarding tainted dog food you just can't be sure what is in the food that you're giving your pet. So why take the chance? By making your own dog food, you can be sure he is getting only the best.

Homemade Dog Food

If making your own dog food sounds like a pain or another big expense added to the food budget, don't worry! Homemade dog food is quickly made and inexpensive. Best of all, when you make your own, you know exactly what's in it and can be sure your dog is getting a healthy dinner.

Here's a fast and simple recipe for homemade dog food:

3 pounds minced chicken meat
2 1/2 cups frozen vegetable blend (no garlic, corn, or onions), minced
4 cups of brown rice
6 1/2 cups water

Boil the meat in the 6 1/2 cups of water
Remove the meat and chop finely in a food processor
Cook the rice in the same water you boiled the meat
When the rice is cooked, add the meat and vegetables and stir

That's it. Nothing fancy.

Depending on the size of your dog, this mixture can last one to two weeks or even more if you have a small breed dog. For small breeds, measure out portions, place in storage bags, and freeze until needed.

For variety and to insure your dog is getting all the nutrients and vitamins he needs, use different types of meat. You can use chicken, liver, beef, and lamb. Don't add corn or use white rice. Dogs can't digest corn, and white rice lacks substantive nutritional value.

Rest assured you are giving man's best friend a healthy and safe meal by preparing homemade dog food for your pet.
