How to Vacation for Less

Don’t Spend So Much on Your Vacation This Year

Many families are experiencing a financial crunch and some aren’t making vacation plans for fear they can’t afford it. If this sounds familiar, then you may want to think twice about not taking a much-needed retreat. There are indeed ways to vacation for less, and we have the tips you need.

Sharing Is Always Nice

Some families save money on vacation by sharing the experience with other family members or friends. Splitting the cost of some vacation expenses is a great way to save money.

Your destination is going to determine whether or not you can comfortably share your vacation with another family. There are several destinations that are conducive to large groups. Camping is an obvious one, and so beach house rentals and cabin retreats. This option works great for families whose children are friends. The kids will have built in playmates for the vacation.

It’s really isn’t too hard to share lodging accommodations when you go on vacation since you really shouldn’t be spending all of your time at the hotel (or wherever you are staying). Morning and evening routines in the bathroom might be difficult, but you’ll just have to set a timer to keep everyone on track.

Cooking Cuts Costs

Eating out can suck up quite a bit of your vacation budget. If you want to save money, go to the local grocery store and prepare your meals. Even if lodging with a kitchenette is more expensive, it will more than pay for itself.

Use Coupons

If you think the grocery store is the only place where you can use coupons to save money, you’ll be happy to know that many vacation destinations accept coupons too. If you’re planning a vacation, contact the local chamber of commerce or tourism board and ask them if they have any coupons available for local attractions.

While taking a budget-friendly vacation does indeed take some planning, it can well be worth the effort if the other alternative is not taking a vacation at all.
