Is Organic Food Really Better?
Why Organic Food is Gaining Popularity
If you’ve been to a grocery store lately, you’ve probably noticed that there are entire sections dedicated to organic foods. But are organic foods really better for you or is this just another health craze that’s destined to fade out at some point in the near future? Believe it or not, organic foods seem to be here to stay, and with good reason.
Free From Chemicals and Pesticides
One of the most attractive qualities of organic food is that it’s grown without the use of chemicals and/or pesticides. This means that you won’t have to worry about the long-term effects of ingesting pesticide residues. Your food will be clean and natural, just the way it should be.
Organic Food Is More Nutritious
In addition to being chemical and pesticide-free, organic food is more nutritious. Due to the way organic farmers farm their land, the soil is more nutrient dense and the organic food that grows on it is packed with the nutrients found in the soil. So by consuming organic food, not only are you losing the harmful effects of chemicals and pesticides, but you’ll be gaining the benefits of naturally-added nutrients.
Comments
There is no such thing as organic food. Some crops are sprayed and the spray is carried great distances in the wind, settling on crops elsewhere. Lead from petrol exists in the soil and settles on fields everywhere and will continue to do so until lead in petrol is abolished. Lead in the soil will always be there and would be too expensive to remove.

To say that organic food has more nutrients is not a proven scientific statement. Organic and inorganic fertilizers both go through the same nitrogen cycle. Through the cycle the nutrients become available to the plant. Whether it's inorganic or organic fertilzer, the nutrients are the same to the plant. To make a statment that organic farming is better for the land is not always the case. The higher the organic matter the more nutrients. By cultivating the land to eliminate weeds, in time organic matter is broken down. There is no scientific evidence to support the conculsion that organic food is better than inorganic.
