Check out these popular diets and see which diet plan is right for you

You want to lose weight, but you don’t have the heart to try yet another diet plan. Too often, they just don’t work. There are so many diets to choose from that it’s hard to know which one will work for you. If you’ve tried diet after diet and are ready to give up, check out these popular diets and see if these fits your needs.

The Atkins diet plan

The Atkins Diet has been around and been popular for many years and centers around the theory that overweight people are eating too many refined carbohydrates. The Atkins diet restricts your carb intake so your body has no choice but it to burn its own fat.

During the first two weeks of Atkins, you will follow a very restricted carb diet only eating around 20 grams of carbs per day. By doing this, your body enters into a state of ketosis, very similar to what diabetics go through when their body doesn’t produce insulin. While this is harmful for diabetics, it isn’t harmful during the Atkins diet because you are only restricting carbs to this level for two weeks.

When the first two weeks are over, you add in a higher amount of complex carbs. Many people have been successful with the Atkins diet. This diet results in a quick weight loss but has the side effects of constipation and lack of energy.

The Biggest Loser

Based on the popular TV series, The Biggest Loser, this diet teaches people how to eat and exercise for the rest of their lives to keep the weight off forever. This is a ‘no gimmick’ diet.

The diet is a 12-week program where you learn to eat small but frequent meals that contain a lot of fiber and protein without eating too many calories. Counting the calories you burn through exercise is also part of the plan.

You follow the Biggest Loser Pyramid of eating called the 4-3-2-1. This means that you get:

— 4 servings of fruits and vegetables
— 3 servings of protein (lean, vegetarian, or low-fat dairy)
— 2 servings of whole grains
— 1 extra serving of fats, oils sweets, alcohol, or your choice – equivalent to 200 calories

This diet sticks to the old “burn more calories than you take in” method – and it works.

The South Beach Diet

This diet is a low carb diet plan much like Atkins but instead of counting the number of carbs, it teaches you to eat carbs that aren’t high in sugar.

Like the Atkins Diet, South Beach has a strict ‘induction’ phase for the first two weeks on the diet. This phase kick starts your body into the fat burning mode.

You will not go hungry on the South Beach Diet because you are told to snack frequently to keep your blood sugar at a steady level. There is also no calorie counting or measuring out strict portion sizes diet. People who disliked the Atkins Diet often find success with the South Beach Diet.

Nutrisystem

For people who are too busy to count carbs, calories, or fix ‘special’ meals, Nutrisystem may be the best diet for you. With this diet isn’t like other diet plans. Instead, you buy foods that are already prepared and delivered to your house.

Women follow a 1,200-calorie meal plan and men follow 1,500 calories per day. You choose what food you want to eat from 120 choices and they deliver it right to your door.
This diet is relatively expensive at $280 to $310 per month plus additional items you need to pick up at the grocery store, but if it’s convenience you want, Nutrisystem delivers it for you.

The diet meal plans are healthy, low in sodium and saturated and trans fats. Based on 55% carbohydrates, 25% protein, and 20% fat, this diet is healthy. This is definitely the diet for very busy people.

Consider your lifestyle and budget and choose a diet plan that will work for you.
