Medial Alert Jewelry: The Difference Between Life and Death

Can a MedicAlert Medical Alert Bracelet Save Your Life?

It’s not a pleasant thought, but imagine that you were in a severe accident, unable to give paramedics and emergency response teams your medical information or any emergency contact information? What if there was critical information that paramedics or emergency room personnel needed to know and you had no way of telling them? And what if not being able to give them this information meant the difference between life and death? Unfortunately, people do find themselves in this situation and that’s why it’s so important for people to have medical alert jewelry like the MedicAlert bracelet.

Because Sometimes You Can’t Speak for Yourself

If you’re in an accident and you can’t speak for yourself, medical alert jewelry like the MedicAlert bracelet allows doctors to get the information they need to give you proper treatment. If you’re allergic to certain medications, the doctor will know. If you have a pacemaker and can’t be given an MRI, the doctor will know that too. And in addition to giving doctors information that may save your life, the MedicAlert system makes sure that your emergency contact is notified should something happen to you.

Not All Medical Alert Jewelry Is Created Equal

It’s important to understand that not all medical alert jewelry is created equal. Many of the cheaper medical alert jewelry products only allow you to write down information that can be fit into the bracelet or necklace. Unfortunately, it’s hard to fit much information on the small space available and who knows if anyone will be able to read your handwriting when the time comes. That’s why it’s important to use medical alert jewelry that provides doctors with a number to call.

When you use a product like MedicAlert, you’re not limited to the space you can write on. By calling the phone number and providing the ID number found on your bracelet or necklace, an emergency room physician will be able to gain access to all of the medical information on file for you, making sure that everything that is critical to your health care is known.

Better to Be Safe than Sorry

While it’s human nature to think that the worst things in life can never happen to us or to procrastinate until it’s too late, I have always been one to believe it’s better to be safe than sorry. If you or someone you love has a medical condition, is allergic to medications or has other issues that a physician would need to know about, medical alert jewelry can mean the difference between life and death.

I have used medical alert ID. When I was being released from a hospital after a week, I was asked if my bracelet was a medical alert. So much for it alerting paramedics, ER staff, unknown doctors or hospial staff about medical problems. I have also tried MediAlert. For a few years I was hounded by them at least once a month to buy more product.
I now carry a brightly colored 3x5 card in my wallet listing meds, conditions & doctors plus a card where it will be seen first when opening my wallet stating to look for the bright card. I also tape a card to the dashboard. My life depends upon being heard. In some states emergency responders and medical staff are not allowed to check you wallet for your personal info so it is very important that the info is kept where it is easily found, if your vehicle is intact. On my cell phone I list family by name and relationship. Family may not know all your medications and conditions but can be a great place to start, if you provide them the info! I keep the same information on my refridarator were it is easily seen.

I have been told by a Para Medic that if you Carry a Cell Phone with you ( and who does not now a days) To Put in the Person to contact in case of Emergencey and to Give them the Name ICE (In Case of Emergency) and if you should get into an accident a Paramedic, Er Dr, or Police Officer will Know who to Contact---Makes sense to me! How about you?
