Save Money by Simply Pressing One Button

Is it Possible to Save Money While Watching Television?

There’s one little lifestyle change that I got into the habit of doing a few years ago. It’s a great way to save money, even if it seems a little farfetched at first. I’d like to share a secret with you that will help you save money -- and lots of it. And it’s something that less than 10% of consumers know about.

Time is Money

Whether or not you realize it, at least 1/3 of the time you spend sitting in front of the television is spent viewing commercials. That holds true whether or not you have an 18-inch economy model or a brand new Plasma!

We’re all seeing the same commercials, and the advertisers are not out to help you save money. From expensive techno gadgets to designer clothing and upscale vehicles, there’s no doubt we’d be broke if we bought even half of what we see advertised.

Press Mute, Now!

The simple solution that I’ve discovered to help my family save money is to press the mute buttons during commercial breaks. The longer you’re exposed to enticing advertisements, the more vulnerable you become. Pretty soon you start to think you need every single thing that you see advertised. This holds true particularly for children because they tend to be the most influential.

Invisible Results

The most difficult aspect of using this simple (and free!) technique to save money is that the results aren’t tangible. It’s hard to see how much money you save by not buying items, but believe me, if you press the mute button during commercials, you will save money.

You’ll also have a few less headaches because your kids will no longer ask you to buy every single toy and gadget advertised. The commercials just don’t have the same impact without the sound, and most of the time your kids will do other things during the commercial breaks. Who knows -- the mute button may become your best friend yet!

Comments

Ok this is a great tip. I am a dedicated DVR (Tivo) user, so I don't see many commercials, but when I am watching a TV without TV the mute button is a life saver.
