You’re Not Saving Money if You Don’t Need What You’re Buying

Why Buying Things On Sale Doesn’t Always Mean Saving Money

We all love a deal -- after all, who doesn’t love saving money? But when does getting a deal becoming wasting money instead of saving it? When is that fine line crossed? Some people are actually addicted to deals and waste money on things they don’t need just because they can get a bargain. Are you one of them?

Weigh Each Purchase

Saving money on individual purchases is certainly beneficial when you have to make a purchase, but as a savvy consumer you should always be considering whether or not you actually need the item you are considering purchasing.

Now, I realize that it is not always fun to be frugal, but you don’t have to be frugal all of the time. Eliminating unnecessary purchases can allow you to splurge on the bigger, more important purchases in the future. For instance, let’s say you have $1,000 to spend on “deals” over the next six months. You can spend it on a bunch of little deals that you don’t really need or you can save up and spend it on a great big deal that you’ve been wanting for a long time. Starting to see my point?

So how can you start eliminating the deals you don’t really need to save up for the deals you do? Let’s say you’re at the grocery store and you see that these expensive cookies you never buy are on sale for half price. Tempting, right? Don’t buy into it. Get a ninety-nine cent package of cheap cookies if you really need to fill your sweet tooth and pass up the more expensive ones. Chances are the half-priced expensive cookies are still more than you should spend on a snack.

Remember, just because something is marked down or fifty, sixty or even seventy-percent off – it doesn’t mean you need it or that you should buy it. Find deals for the things you need and same up for some of the treats you want.
